PORCELAIN TOOTH CROWNS (CEREC)

The purpose of Dental Crowns is to protect the tooth from breakage due to a heavily repaired tooth. A tooth with a large surface area of dental bonding repair can actually split down the middle to the root. Breakage can occur from normal use of the teeth with an unprotected tooth, and could result in the loss of the tooth.

Typically, crowns are formed using a mold of a tooth that is sent to lab to be fabricated. This process requires two visits. At our clinic, we use Cerec 3D technology, which allows us to prepare the porcelain crown on site and bond it into place all in one visit

There are three main types of materials used to crown a tooth:

1) Gold - is the most tooth conservative, takes two visits, and lasts a long time but obviously isn't very aesthetic.
2) Gold/porcelain hybrid - more tooth reduction is required. Mixes a balance between the strength of gold and the aesthetic look of porcelain.
3) Porcelain (Cerec) - because of our on-site CAD/CAM technology, we can create and insert the tooth crown all in one appointment.

A dental crown is an enamel cap that is cemented onto the tooth to protect it and improve its appearance. In situations where your teeth are damaged or a cavity has resulted in the loss of most of the tooth, Cerec dental crowns can be used to restore them to their original size and shape.

Porcelain / ceramic dental crowns can be used to protect a weakened or cracked tooth, to repair a broken or severely worn down tooth, to cover and restore a tooth subjected to extensive tissue removal, to cover a malformed or discoloured tooth, or to conceal a dental implant.

Bradford Family Dentistry has kept pace with the amazing advances in dental procedures since the introduction of computers and computer imaging technology. We have acquired the latest innovation in dental crown technology. Computer-assisted design/computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology, which until now has only been applied in the manufacturing industry, can now be applied to the milling of porcelain crowns. The entire process can be done on a computer while you wait, so there’s no need for temporary crowns or even a second visit. Call today to book an appointment: 1-877-283-0497.

The Cerec milling process produces crowns that are durable and indistinguishable from the rest of your teeth. We can even match the crown to blend perfectly with the remaining parts of a broken or drilled-out tooth. We use a Cerec 3 camera to take a 3D image of the prepared tooth and the image is used to create the parts of the tooth that are missing, a process very similar to that used to repair damaged porcelain and fine china.

The Cerec milling process then carves a replacement from a ceramic block as easily as a printer produces documents and pictures. The final step is simply to cement the crown to the tooth. And because the whole process can be done in our office, only one visit is needed to renovate your once-perfect teeth.
